Bake Sale and Sausage Sizzle for a Good Cause

Seatbelts are a vital piece of safety equipment, we use them every day and probably don’t realise that countries such as Tanzania don’t have access to such simple safety necessities. On May 7 2017, 35 people including 32 children, 2 teachers and a bus driver were killed in Karatu District (Tanzania) on their way to visit another school. This accident occurred when the bus was descending down a hill in rainy conditions, and crashed into a roadside railing. The victims didn’t have any safety measures in the bus, so didn’t have much chance of surviving. This isn’t a rare occurrence regarding road safety in Tanzania, between 2014-2016 more than 11,000 people were killed in road accidents in Tanzania. So, that’s where we can do our part in supporting a country with a poor road security network and safety reinforcements.  On Tuesday the 23rd of May, The University High School WEP10 class will be hosting a bake sale to raise money and awareness of the importance of simple but extremely important safety equipment such as seatbelts. On Friday 26th May a sausage sizzle will be held to raise further funds. All money raised will be taken personally by a student in the WEP class (Neema), back to Tanzania to install seatbelt in school busses, so that the impacts of a crash won’t be so severe and the risk of death on roads is decreased. So please, bring a few dollars to the bake sale on the 23rd of May (Tuesday) and buy some baked goods or a snag, to support a life saving cause.
